The Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games were hosted in Lethbridge from February 19 to 22, and the Crowsnest Pass got in on the action as the cross-country ski races were held at the Allison-Chinook ski area.
With 37 competitors and 40 volunteers participating in two days of cross-country skiing under perfect blue skies, the event was the perfect showcase for the local cross-country ski area.
"It was just rave reviews for how it went," says Neil Chalmers, Event Chair for cross-country skiing and president of the Crowsnest Pass Cross-Country Ski Association. "Everyone was delighted. It was a big event, and it'll give our little venue more coverage."
 
Chalmers says that the organizing committee chose the Allison trails for the event because of its good reputation, and because two provincial events have been held there in the past. The snow tends to be reliable at the Allison area, he says, even in a poor snow year such as this. The area is also relatively sheltered from the persistent winds of southern Alberta.
