The Chamber of Commerce helds its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, March 11, filling up the Cosmopolitan Restaurant in Blairmore.
Chamber president Lowry Toombs announced that three new members had joined the Chamber –– Hill Top Motors, Mac’s Convenience Store, and the new Spring Break Garden Centre, taking over from the former Crowsnest Greenhouses.
Being a member of the Chamber, said Toombs, says that you are part of the business community and care about the Crowsnest Pass. The Chamber acts as an advocate for the business community by presenting information to council, such as the downtown Blairmore parking survey recently conducted by the Chamber, which informed council’s discussion on the matter.
“We’re actively working toward improving the economic climate,” said Toombs. He added that they are encouraging people to buy products locally whenever possible.
The Chamber’s 21st annual Trade Show is coming on April 17-18, and Toombs said that the arena side of the Sports Complex has already been sold out and that many of the booths on the curling side have been sold.

In addition, this year the Chamber is offering tables for smaller groups, which are available for less than the cost of a full booth.
Joe Trotz, president of the Kananaskis Rodeo Association, announced that this year’s indoor rodeo will take place from April 24th to 26th. They will once again include high quality Kesler stock, said Trotz, and are bringing in a professional trick rider. They will have an open gymkana for kids, a wild pony race, and the traditional rodeo dance.
The meeting’s guest speaker was Dave Morrison, manager of the Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill.
“Our job,” said Morrison, “is to get new skiers into the sport and provide an affordable option.” The Powderkeg acts as a feeder hill for larger areas, he said, teaching new people to ski and drawing youths and families.
