A missing person case had a tragic end in the early morning of Monday, May 4, as local resident Sandra Giza, missing since the night before, was found deceased by search parties near Coleman.
Late on the evening of Sunday, May 3, local police were informed that the 57-year-old was missing and could not be found by her family. She had left home before noon and had intended to feed the family’s horses at a pasture, and to check fences around the pasture.
When she could not be found, both the Crowsnest Pass RCMP and Crowsnest Pass Rescue organized a search of the pasture and the surrounding area. |
Searchers looked through the night, and were assisted by an RCMP dog handler and dog called in from Cranbrook, B.C.
Shortly before 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, the search came to an unfortunate end, as searchers discovered the deceased individual.
The Medical Examiner’s Office ordered an autopsy performed to determine the cause of death. As a result of the investigation, the RCMP has determined that the death was not caused by foul play.
