For many years now, individuals, organizations, and municipal departments in the Pass have been dreaming and planning an eventual unifying trail from one end of the community to another, for use by bicyclists, pedestrians, tourists, and more. With the official announcement of two large government grants to finish the trail by March of 2011, the dream is becoming a reality.
An official ceremony was held beside the trail, outside of the Blairmore Legion, on Friday, September 25. Mayor John Irwin welcomed both our provincial MLA, Evan Berger, and our federal MP, Ted Menzies, as they announced the grants from their respective governments.

The federal government is providing $184,000 through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program, which is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The provincial government is providing a $241,000 grant from the Municipal Sponsorship Program. For its part, the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass will create a marketing strategy to raise a further $80,000 for the program.
