The cultural and historical significance of the Polish Hall has been confirmed by the provincial government, as the Bushtown landmark has been re-designated as a provincial historic resource.
The building, originally constructed in 1927 by the Polish Society for Brotherly Aid, has been a historic resource in the past. Monica Primrose, President of the current Friends of the Polish Hall Society, says that the building was removed from the program along with all similar historic resources in the province several years ago, |
when the province aimed for a clean slate and decided that historic resources should first be recognized by their local town or municipality before being recognized by the province.
The society had not yet approached the municipality, and the province has now reversed their decision for a select number of buildings. Primrose says that the province felt there were so few ethnic halls left in Alberta that they did not wish to risk losing them.
