A 48-year-old Sparwood man was killed on Monday, Feb. 7th when his SUV collided with a semi truck near Crowsnest Lake.
The deceased, Jeffery Evans, was travelling east bound on Hwy 3 at approximately 10:30 a.m. when his Jeep Cherokee collided with a west bound tractor trailer hauling cattle, 12 kilometres west of Crowsnest Pass.
Evans was the sole occupant of the Jeep, and was killed instantly.
The driver and passenger of the tractor trailer, a Milk River couple, received no injuries, but were transported to the Crowsnest Pass hospital for examination and later released. |
Authorities say none of the cattle in the trailer were injured in the incident.
Hwy 3 was closed for nearly five hours as rescue workers and police investigators, including an RCMP collision analyst from Calgary, examined the scene.
A line of backed up westbound traffic extended from the scene of the crash until Hwy 40 in Coleman while the highway was closed, and until the Sparwood landfill in the eastbound lane.
Blowing snow and snow removal work are believed to have caused decreased visibility, and the investigation in to the exact details of the crash is still ongoing.
