A mixed bonspiel took place on the weekend of February 25th and 26th at the Crowsnest Curling Club in Coleman, with 12 teams competing in fun games against friends.
Bonspiel Coordinator Wally Spahmann said the turnout was lower than expected, but the club is still in the rebuilding stage.
“We were hoping to have 16 teams, but we were definitely happy with 12,” said Spahmann. “It’s in a rebuilding stage, so hopefully it will grow.”
“What’s important is the facility was used and people had a good time.”
The final draw took place at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, with finals beginning at 3:30 p.m.
In the A Event, the winning team was comprised of Al Farano (skip), Jody Ransome (lead), Morgan Primrose (second), and Erika Farano (third).
Coming in second were Gord Brecht (skip), Val Hogarth (lead), Robert Korner (second), and Raye Kubik (third).
In the B Event, the winners were Paul Ozar (skip), Sherrie Bond (lead), Duane Bond (second), and Brenda Heisler (third), who beat out the team of Rob Parkins (skip), Isabel Russell (lead), Peter Dunn (second), and Carol Robertson (third). |

“The bonspiel went very well with the teams we had,” said Spahmann. “Everyone had a very good time.”
The fun, relaxed tournament had a Hawaiian theme, with many players dressing in Hawaiian shirts and Leis, and a pig roast was enjoyed on Saturday night following games.
