Following their win against the Raymond Ice on Friday, March 19th, the
Crowsnest Pass Thunder Pee Wee A team were named Spud League and Division Champions.
This was the team’s 23rd straight win of the season, in which they went undefeated in regular league play.
The team participated in a final practice last Wednesday, March 24th, where they had a pizza party and celebrated a season of hard work and big payoff.
“It was one heck of a season with one heck of a team, and I was just glad to be a part of it,” said the team’s coach, Chris Chomyn.
He said the players were all hungry to win this year, after both age groups made it to provincials in the past two years, but ultimately fell short of the goal.
“We set our goals at the beginning of the year... and one of their main goals was to win Spud League,” said Chomyn. “They knew what it would take to get first, and they did it.”
He said he was impressed with the way each player performed this season, and that each one got the coaches’ attention at some point.
“One of the greatest things about coaching is you get to see a new shining star every game,” he said. “Each kid did at least one thing that wowed the coaches every game.”
