Four competitors were eliminated from the first annual Crowsnest Pass Idol competition at the Blairmore Legion on Saturday, April 3rd, with 16 more moving on to the next round.
A group of 20 talented singers and musicians from Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Sparwood performed for a sold out crowd of 200 people, with 16 moving on to the next performance on April 16th.
Singer Jon Burgman started off the evening with his rendition of Paul Brandt’s “Alberta Bound”, followed by Lindsay Sinclair, Jeff Chambers, Tia Green, Cierra Shortreed, Mindy Pawluk, Yvette Lucas, Michel Blais, Jesse Sutherland, Ashley Holmes, Donna Dauphinee, Jim Taylor, Shane Borthwick, Kayla Valiquette, Emily Peters, Codie Sinclair, Curtis Bier, Grand Henderson, Kristen Sciarra, and Janet Joy.
Performances were judged by local singers Deserie Michalsky, Michele Dobek-Koinberg, and Mountain Radio morning host Daryl Ferguson.
Ashley Holmes, Tia Green, Lindsay Sinclair and Donna Dauphinee were eliminated from the competition, and Yvette Lucas, who had her own cheering section complete with signs, was chosen as the wildcard selection.
The remaining 16 competitors will go on to perform two songs each at the next round of competition on April 16th, where five more will be eliminated.
The remaining competitors will then perform again April 23rd, and the seven best singers will move on to the finale on May 6th, where they will perform three songs each.
“The talent in this community is unbelievable,” said Dobek-Koinberg. “It was difficult to decide who to cut, and it’s going to be even more difficult this week.”
She said there were a few performers who stood out to her, and whom she can see easily making it to the finals.
