The Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon, catered by Ben Wong’s Restaurant, at the Blairmore Lions Pride Hall on Wednesday, April 13th.
Chamber President Rick Breakenridge noted that the Chamber used to hold its luncheons at the Blairmore Legion, but had to vacate when the Legion changed its hours, and the Lions Club offered to donate the facility to the Chamber.
“We’re very grateful to the Lions Club for allowing us to use their facility,” said Breakenridge.
Shortly after lunch was served, Sacha Anderson of Community Futures gave members an overview of updates for some of the projects Community Futures is working on, including the launch of a film chronicling the historic Coleman Parade and Rodeo, using old footage from 1948 to 1953 which has been compiled onto a high definition DVD.
The film will air at the Orpheum theatre on Thursday, April 28th at 1 p.m., in conjunction with the annual Kananaskis Pro Rodeo.
The DVD will also be available for $20 through the Crowsnest Historical Society following the premier.
Next up, Pam York spoke to members about the annual Prairie n Peaks Quilt Festival, which will be held at the end of June.
The festival is a cooperative event to benefit the Crowsnest Museum and Kootenay Brown Pioneer Village in Pincher Cree, York said.
This year’s festivities will include a merchant mall in Pincher Creek, an artisan mall at the Crowsnest Museum during Rum Runner Days, fashion show, tea, and other events.
A $7 round trip shuttle service will also be offered to transport people between the two communities during the festival.
York encouraged business owners to get on board with the festival by offering door prizes, hanging quilts in store windows, and volunteering.
Next up, Joe Trotz of the Kananaskis Pro Rodeo Association gave members an overview of the upcoming rodeo, which takes place from April 29th to May 1st this year.

In addition to the regular pro and junior rodeo festivities and a free pancake breakfast, the rodeo will feature two fundraisers for the Pinkest Little Town in the West campaign.
Rodeo organizers will be selling pink hats and bracelets, and rodeo contestants will participate in the annual “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day.
In addition, Trotz said people can go to the KRA website at www.kraprorodeo.com to vote for who they would like to see have their hair dyed pink, with some of the potential victims being Trotz, Daryl Ferguson, and Joey Ambrosi.
Finally, Fred Bradley informed members of the upcoming 2011 Crowsnest Pass Doors open and Heritage Festival, which takes place from July 29th to August 1st.
In addition to going over the history of the festival and some of the activities which will be taking place this year, Bradley asked Chamber members to let other business and homeowners know about opportunities to participate in the festival.
He said volunteers could offer to organize an event or activity, give a guided tour of their home or historical business building, volunteer with other events, or sponsor the festival.
He also asked the Chamber to collectively plan an event to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on the day of the launch of the guided Blairmore Walking Tours, when there will be downtime between activities.
