The task looked pretty daunting heading into the weekend for the Crowsnest Pass Junior Ravens lacrosse team.
Saturday night was a date with the undefeated Lethbridge Barracudas, a team the Ravens had tied 10-10 in Lethbridge the previous weekend.
Sunday was a match-up against the league’s top team, the undefeated High River Heat.
In Saturday’s game against Lethbridge, the Ravens came out on fire and rolled out to an insurmountable 8-1 lead after one period, with Jace Bohmer completing his hat trick before the first period ended.
Lethbridge rallied in the second and closed the gap to 11-6 after two, but the Ravens put it away in the third with seven more goals for a convincing 18-11 victory.
Bohmer ended the night with an amazing nine goals to lead the powerful Raven attack.
Jared Jones and Brett Tarcon each added a pair and Josh Cadonic, Chad Cadonic, Derek Snider, Graham Brown and Haden Houze each pitched in with singles.
Mitch Makin stood tall in the net for the Ravens.
On Sunday, the High River Heat rolled into town sporting an unblemished 7-0 record.
The game was a very hard fought affair, with both teams taking the lead at different points in the game. |
Brett Tarcon got the Ravens off to a fast start with two goals in the first, but High River battled back to take a 5-3 lead into the first intermission.
The Ravens dominated the second frame, scoring twice in the final 13 seconds to emerge with a 9-7 lead after two.
Both goalies stood out in the third period, making great save after great save.
Josh Cadonic scored in the third to give the Ravens a 10-7 edge, but High River clawed back with two goals to bring it within one.
In the dying seconds, Raven goaltender Mitch Makin made a superb save on a breakaway to preserve the Raven 10-9 victory. Brett Tarcon notched a hat trick for the Ravens, Josh Cadonic and Jace Bohmer each scored twice, and Derek Snider, Shea Sagrafena and Haden Houze had solo markers.
The two wins over previously undefeated teams leaves the Crowsnest Ravens as the only remaining undefeated team in the league at 5-0-1.
The Ravens travel to Medicine Hat and Brooks next Friday and Saturday before returning home for a rematch with Medicine Hat at the Blairmore Arena on June 5th.
