Quote of the Week
"We need to determine if it is viable for us to continue doing (this event) as a municipal entity."
- Councillor Andrew Saje

Following more than a year of public input, opposition from Council and internal deliberation, AltaLink informed Crowsnest Pass Municipal Council last week that it would not be relocating the section of line which runs through Frank and along Bluff Mountian.
AltaLink’s Manager of Municipal Relations Kevin Strangway told Council the company had originally intended to move the line off of the side of the mountain and onto the valley floor, closer to the Crowsnest River, but after much opposition on the matter, it decided it would simply update and renovate the existing poles and lines.
Strangway said this project will involve some challenges and interruption in service.
“We have to arrange for interruption that will allow us to take that portion of line out of service for about a week,” said Strangway, adding that the company will reroute feed from B.C. during that time.
Strangway said the project is expected to begin in August, and should be completed by the end of September.

“We’ve got a pretty tight window of opportunity,” said Strangway. “If we don’t get the work done in that window, we have to go through another winter season with that line left as it is.”
AltaLink will also be re-routing the lines which run northeast of Frank (Section 2), and the section northeast of Bellevue (Section 3).
The company’s application to the Alberta Utilities Commission to reroute those sections was approved on May 4th.
Sections 2 and 3, which are 1,050 metres and 975 metres in length, respectively, will each be shifted 30 metres uphill.
Strangway noted that the company is likely a year or two from being at the point where it can begin that project.
He added that outages will be required in order to relocate the lines, but that it will be
Minimal.
