20th Avenue Traffic
Councillor Larry Mitchell informed Council that he has received several complaints of motorists speeding, racing, and generally being loud on 20th Avenue in Blairmore.
He noted that one complaint he received came from a resident who lives near the four-way stop near Lions Park, who informed him they regularly witness people speeding or rolling through the stop sign.
“Someone is going to get killed or seriously injured,” said Councillor Mitchell.
“We should notify the police that there is a situation.”
Mayor Bruce Decoux agreed with Councillor Mitchell, noting that he has received easily in excess of 25 phone calls over the past several months about the issue.
“Something has to be done,” said Mayor Decoux, noting that the stretch of highway from Blairmore to Crowsnest Lake has more accidents per kilometre than any other community in Alberta.
“We have a spectacular history of horrible highway accidents in the Crowsnest Pass,” he said.
“Sooner or later, we’re going to have a bad (accident) and then people will say where are the police and what is happening with this?”
Interim Chief
Administrative Officer Kevin Robins told Council that Administration would bring the issue up with Crowsnest Pass RCMP. |
AltaLink Line
Councillor Larry Mitchell informed Council that he attended the open houses for AltaLink’s Fidler to Chapel Rock transmission project which were held in Pincher Creek and Cowley in July.
Councillor Mitchell said when looking through information provided at the open house, he learned that the proposed Chapel Rock substation location is within a mile of the boundary of the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
He noted that several residents in the area of the current proposed location are opposed to its installation, as it would disrupt views and create other problems.
Councillor Mitchell said there are several areas within our municipality where the substation could be placed where it would be out of the way and not be of bother.
“I would like for us to be considered when they put the substation in,” said Councillor Mitchell.
Councillor Brian Gallant said he would like to see maps of proposed areas where the substation could be installed .
“I would like to know where it would go, if in fact it will be going in here,” said Councillor Gallant.
