The Hillcrest Fire Department will be conducting door-to-door smoke alarm checks at homes in Hillcrest during the week of October 10th to 14th, in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week.
“We will be trying to blanket to whole town during that week,” said Deputy Fire Chief Steve Crane.
Crane said the fire department will also be focusing their efforts on ensuring that senior residents have working smoke detectors.
“We want to target the seniors and those on fixed income,” said Crane.
“A lot of seniors don’t have smoke alarms, or the batteries are old and need to be replaced.”
According to Crane, those who do not have smoke alarms will also be able to obtain one from the fire department, who used a $250 donation from Devon Canada to purchase the detectors for this purpose. |
“We wanted to use that money from Devon to help the community in some way, and I think this is a good way of doing that,” said Crane.
Anyone interested in having their alarm checked in encouraged to contact the fire hall at 403-564-4773 and leave a message including their name and address.
Checks will take place from Monday, October 10th through to Friday, October 14th, and firefighters will be dressed in full fire gear.
