The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass announced last week that Myron Thompson will be taking over the position of Chief Administrative Officer at the end of this month.
Thompson, who currently serves as Director of Operational Services, will assume the position which was vacated by former CAO Tully Clifford in June and performed on an interim basis by Kevin Robins of Transitional Solutions Inc. since that time.
Thompson said he is looking forward to his new role within the Municipality, and that it comes with its share of challenges.
“A lot of the roles are similar, but it’s going to require more attention to detail and providing more leadership,” said Thompson.
“There will be a lot more responsibility, and it’s going to be a challenge, but I am definitely looking forward to it.”
Thompson has served as Director of Operational Services since September 2010, and says this will aid him in settling into his new role.
“It’s been nice having been part of the organization for the past year and getting to know the organization, instead of just stepping in and not knowing what you’re getting into,” said Thompson.
“Council has had the opportunity to ‘test drive’ me – we are familiar with each other and have established a good working relationship.”
Mayor Bruce Decoux officially announced Thompson’s new role during the regular Council meeting on Tuesday, November 1st.
“Myron has been with us for quite some time and we’re very pleased that he is prepared to stay and in a sense, take the next upward step,” said Mayor Decoux.
“We look forward to a long and rewarding relationship.”
“This is definitely a higher step within the organization and I appreciate the opportunity that Council has given me,” said Thompson.

Decoux also took the opportunity to welcome newly hired Manager of Operational Services Robert Schulz, who brings 21 years of Public Works management experience with several Saskatchewan and Alberta municipalities to his new role.
Schulz thanked Council for “believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”
Thompson said Council and Administration are relieved to finally have Schulz on board, after many months of recruiting for the position.
During that time, Thompson had been performing the duties of both Manager and Director of Operational Services, being out in the field as well as performing administrative duties.
“We are very fortunate to have Bob here,” said Thompson, adding that the next step will be filling the role of Director of Operational Services.
“There’s a gap there now, and we need to ensure we hire the right person for the job, and we will get started on that right away.”
He said his focus for the next couple months will be to finalize the three-year budget, as well as working on implementing the measures outlined in the strategic plan which Council will be presenting at the Town Hall meeting this Wednesday, October 9th.
“The budget is going to be a big issue for us,” said Thompson, “and the strategic plan will be a huge focus for us in the coming months.”
“It will bring some stability to the organization, and get us moving forward all pulling together in the same direction.
While no official start date has yet been announced, Thompson will formally assume CAO duties at the end of November.
