Crowsnest Pass Chamber of Commerce President Rick Breakenridge presents the Best Overall Business of the Year Award to A&B Liquor Store owner Adrian Fabro at the Chamber AGM on Thursday, November 3rd.

The Crowsnest Pass Chamber of Commerce elected four new directors to its board and named the businesses of the year at the annual general meeting, held on Thursday, November 3rd at the Blairmore Legion, catered by Country Encounters.
This year, Markus Beck, Shar Lazzarotto, Jeanine Trotz and Anita Ferguson stepped down as board members.
“These people have put in tremendous time and effort on our part and they’ve done a great job for the businesses of the Crowsnest Pass,” said Chamber President Rick Breakenridge, paying a special thanks to Ferguson, one of the key organizers of Crowsnest Christmas.
“Nobody has got the business of the Pass more at heart than Anita,” he said.
Four chamber members – Rick Jeune of Flying Numbers, Sharon Marthaller of Crowsnest Pass Senior Housing and York Creek Lodge, John Redekopp of Canyon Creek Realty, and Pam VamPlew of Mortgage Architects - were nominated to replace the former board members and were elected by acclamation.
Breakenridge thanked former members, as well as the new board members for volunteering their time to serve on the board.
“There will be lots of challenges, and thank you for your willingness to serve,” he said.
“It truly is a service to the community and that willingness is key.”
Jeune, Marthaller, Redekopp and VamPlew will serve on the board of directors for the next two years.
Members also named businesses of the year, in recognition of local businesses which demonstrate excellent customer service and dedication to their field.

A record number of businesses were nominated for the business awards this year, and Breakenridge said that shows the quality and dedication of businesses in the Pass.
“We’ve got a lot of businesses in the Pass that are being acknowledged by their peers for excellence in their field,” said Breakenridge.
The New Business of the Year Award was presented to Black Rock Pizza / Bamboo Bistro.
“We really felt that culinary was something we could improve in the Pass and it was our main goal,” said Owner John Warlock, who opened the restaurant with his wife six months ago, adding that they plan to extend their hours and bring in a new chef.
“We’re advancing and we’re hoping that other people are going to do the same.”
Overall Business of the Year was awarded to A & B Liquor Store.
Owner Adrian Fabro attributed much of the store’s success to its excellent management and staff, especially Manager Jackie Woodman.
“Building a successful business takes hard work, determination, effort and luck,” said Fabro.
“The number one thing we have at A & B is fabulous employees – great people and an outstanding manager who cares for the people who work there.”
Trade / Professional Business of the Year was awarded to Shane Stewart of Clanswest Development (Ironstone), and Outstanding Customer Service was awarded to the Bellevue Underground Mine.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold its next regular monthly luncheon this Wednesday, November 9th at the Blairmore Lions Pride Hall at noon.
