A semi trailer which collided with an SUV containing two Crowsnest Pass residents sits in Michel Creek on Thursday, November 24th.

Two Crowsnest Pass residents were killed in a collision with a tractor trailer on Highway 3 near Sparwood last Monday, November 21st.
Caron Townsend, 71, and Kathy Allsop, 62, were travelling westbound in a small SUV
approximately eight kilometres east of Sparwood at 9:50 a.m., when they lost control of the vehicle and drifted across the centre line.
The SUV sideswiped an eastbound Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) pickup truck which had pulled over to avoid contact.
The SUV then spun off the CPR truck and was struck broadside by an eastbound semi truck, killing the two women instantly and causing both the semi and SUV to slide off the road and come to rest in Michel Creek.

Highway 3 was closed until 4:50 p.m. while Search and Rescue worked for several hours to remove the victims from the water.
The Sparwood Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance, B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Mainroad East Kootenay were also on scene during the recovery.
Both the driver of the CPR truck and semi were uninjured in the collision.
Road conditions at the time were very poor, with both directions covered in snow and ice with falling and blowing snow.
Investigations are ongoing, but speed relative to the road conditions is what early investigation reveals.
One police officer on scene reported the roads similar to that of a skating rink.
