Following the formulation of a new board of directors, the Crowsnest Historical Society announced last week that the Crowsnest Museum will remain open at least until the end of the summer.
The museum will remain open with current operating hours over the next several weeks until summer operations commence and summer hours will be announced once the board has reached a decision.
The motion to keep the museum open to the public was made at an organizational meeting of the newly elected Board of Directors which was held on March 18th, a week after the society’s annual general meeting on March 11th.
The new board - consisting of President Fred Bradley, Vice President Matthew Heisie, Secretary Isabel Russel, Treasurer Rudy Pagnucco and Directors Gus Kollee, Belle Kovach, Lori Prentice, Paul Schepella and Randall Whiteside - carefully reviewed the society’s financial position, ongoing fundraising efforts and anticipated future grant funding before concluding that with a lot of hard work, it would be possible to maintain current operations and keep the museum open to the public for the 2012 summer tourist season.
“There are grants in process to which a positive response is expected,” Bradley told the Pass Herald last week.
Bradley added that several summer employment grants have also been applied for by museum staff and the former board, and the current board expects that these grants will be received in the coming months, allowing for necessary funding to sustain summer operations.
