Ryan Matt, a 21-year-old Crowsnest Pass resident, was killed last Monday, April 2nd when his motorcycle collided head-on with another near Lake Koocanusa.
Elk Valley RCMP responded to the incident at roughly 4:15 p.m. at the popular outdoor recreation area, located approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Fernie.
According to Elk Valley RCMP Sergeant Dave Dubnyk, Matt was with a group of friends riding backcountry trails in the area.
The two riders were ascending opposite sides of the same hill at an unknown speed and collided head-on when they reached the top. |
Dubnyck said the group, ranging in age from 19 to 21, were all experienced motocross riders and were wearing helmets and protective riding gear, adding that police have ruled out foul play.
“It doesn’t appear there was any negligence on anyone’s part,” said Dubnuck.
“It was truly an accident.”
Matt succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene and the other rider received minor injuries but did not need to be taken to hospital.
Dubyck said RCMp will continue to work in assisting the B.C. Coroner’s Service with the investigation.
