Applications are now being accepted for the Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp, (AYEC) and the camp is anticipating an exciting summer this year.
The one week camp, which is held in August at Eagles Nest Ranch in Cypress Hill, Alta, is a camp that lets its campers experience the ins and outs of the business world but at a summer camp atmosphere.
For Alberta youth aged 13 to 15, the camp, which will be celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, gives its youth the opportunity to catch a glimpse of life as an entrepreneur by planning a business idea, meeting with bankers, creating a product or services and keeping a cash flow. At the end of the week campers have to pay back their loans and are allowed to keep the profits their businesses earned them. |
“It’s a positive influence on the kids,” says Sasha Anderson, economic and marketing co-ordinator of Community Futures Crowsnest Pass.
“It’s fun, and leaves them with a good experience.”
Apart from the business side of the week, campers also get to experience traditional camp activities, including: swimming, horseback riding, wall climbing, mountain biking and a zipline.
An added element of AYEC is the Youth Leadership Training Program. Every year, ten former campers can apply to be chosen to attend the camp as mentors, creating leadership and community building.
Youth interested in participating in the camp, are invited to contact Sacha Anderson or Community Futures Crowsnest Pass at 403-562-8858 or email sacha@communityfuturescnp.ca.
