The Rick Rypien Memorial Golf Tournament brought nearly 125 golfers to the Crowsnest Pass Golf Course, as locals remembered a remarkable man who died last summer.
The golf tournament kicked off the week’s events bright and early on Friday, Aug 10th.
Rypien was a Crowsnest Pass native who spent parts of six seasons in the National Hockey League. He passed away in Crowsnest Pass last August, after suffering from depression and taking his own life.
Members of the RickyRyp Foundation decided to use this August as an opportunity to remember and embrace the former Vancouver Canucks player by organizing a week filled with sports, including a golf tournament, a hockey camp and a hockey tournament.
“The efforts by the organizing committee and the people who have offered to help and participate is just incredible,” said Rypien’s grandmother, Pat Rypien. “The support is wonderful, and I am so impressed.”
