Alberta is rich in many different areas, including natural resources, vast scenery, diverse cultures and as of recent years, job opportunities. Perhaps that is why a manufacturing company from Quebec is considering the municipality of Crowsnest Pass as the location for their factory that will employ up to 100 workers.
Crowsnest Pass is one of the primary candidates for the location of the factory for many reasons but the primary motivation is stability. Choosing fast-paced and busy cities like Calgary or Edmonton run great risks of hiring employees that are short-term and undependable. Crowsnest Pass, however, has residents who are believed to be more stable and relocation is thought to be less of a likelihood for local residents.
Although the decision to make Crowsnest Pass the location for the factory has not been finalized, the Municipality is trying hard to make a final conformation with the company. “We are doing everything we can possibly do. They are coming down to meet us either next week or the week after,” said Mayor Decoux.
The manufacturing company is described as a large company that will require a massive facility to produce products. At first the company will hire 30 locals, and then eventually hire up to 100.
The company is interested in Alberta because it is simply more convenient to sell products from a western location in Canada then to ship manufactured products across the country from Eastern Canada.
Mayor Decoux
The company is headquartered in Michigan. With transportation costs on the increase, and space in the municipality being vast, the Pass quickly became a strong candidate for the factory’s location.
The predication that Alberta is on the verge of another boom is simply another pro. “They are interested in a stable work force,” said Decoux. “Crowsnest Pass has third generation people here,” he said, adding that the municipality has people who travel to Fort McMurray for work every month, and people who travel to B.C. for work every day.” Having a large company in the area can save residents time, money and effort.
“The company wants to grow and expand their workforce,” explained Decoux. “They are after long term employees. That is very critical in a manufacturing company, because new employees require a lot of training.”
The name of the manufacturing company could not be disclosed at this time.
