The petition that was distributed on Thursday, October 11th by the Ratepayers Association received more signatures than the Association originally anticipated.
“We were not expecting this many signatures in this little time,” said Bill Kovach, President of the Ratepayers Association. “It’s good that people are standing up and making a stand.”
The petition received between 1,200 and 1,300 signatures within the first week of releasing it to the public.
After it is collected back from the public, it will then be presented to Minister of Municipal Affairs Officer Doug Griffiths in hopes that he will intervene and open an inquiry into the municipality, with focus on the actions of the CAO, CFO, Administration and Mayor and Council.
Kovach is planning on hand-delivering the petition to Griffiths near the end of October or the beginning of November.
“We did not think we would get these numbers this fast,” said Kovach. “But people have said that enough is enough.”
The petition’s goal was to reach 1500 signatures.
“I am very proud of the Pass,” said Kovach. “They’re standing up for what they believe in.”
