One of the new games areas added to the Isabelle Sellon School playground funded through a Community Impact Grant fro Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta

New changes will be apparent around Isabelle Sellon School in Blairmore in the near future. I.S.S. recently received a $2,000 Community Impact Grant from the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and South Western Alberta. The school plans on using the funds to add playground games in the form of painted stencils to the tarmac area.
“We ware looking to enhancing the playground,” said Paul Pichurski, principal of I.S.S. He said that the painted stencils will be for playground games including hopscotch, four square and a bulls eye game. “It’s an opportunity to make better use of the space that we have, especially on the tarmac area,” said Pichurski.
“The two [playground games] that we have put down have already been played with by the kids,” he said. “They seem to enjoy them.”
In addition to the grant, I.S.S. has also obtained a new automatic notification system.
“It is just a way to get the word out in the case of a school closure, or any other time we need to notify the parents of an occurrence at the school,” said Pichurski.
He explained that the automatic notification system is a software program purchased by the school division. An administrator can enter contact information of student’s parents, and send out immediate notifications when needed.
“It is a quick and easy way for us to punch in the message and get the phone calls and emails out,” he said, adding that with the new program, messages can be delivered in about two minutes.
In a couple of months, I.S.S. will also try to add text messaging as a way of contact to the software program.
