Crowsnest Pass Boys and Girls Club is looking for new club members this winter season, and to help achieve this, the club will be waiving fees for a number of programs throughout the year.
“The goal is to get as many kids registered as Club Members as possible and come out and try the programs free of charge,” said Nicole Pearse, Program Director of the Boys and Girls Club in a press release.
The Boys and Clubs Club has a limited number of spaces for program days that they are able to waive throughout the year, but children must be registered club members to be able to participate.
“It has been determined that the more assets a youth possesses, the most successful he/she will be in school, the healthier they will be and the greater the likelihood that hey will contribute tot heir community,” said Pearse in the press release.
“Alternatively, they will be less likely to be involved in risky behaviours such as alcohol, drugs, violence and criminal activities.”
The Boys and Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass strives to provide safe, healthy and fun activities for members, thus creating opportunities and prospects for the children.
The Club believes that one of the feel factors youth need in developing assets is support, therefore, every member of their community has the opportunity to give their support and positively influence their youth to build more assets.
“We would like to continue encouraging groups and individuals in our community to come out and promote the sharing of knowledge and excitement that accompanies those who are passionate in what they do,” said Pearse.

“Our intention is to engage adults from all walks of life to develop sustained, strength building relationships with our youth because ordinary citizens can have an extraordinary impact on the children and youth of our community.”
Pearse mentioned Boys and Girls Club has had a large amount of support, not only financially but also through a large number of volunteers contributing their time with the youth of the club.
“We encourage everyone in the Crowsnest Pass to become involved in their community and mentor our youth. Please check out our Community, Volunteer and Calendar pages on our website www.bgccnp.com to explore opportunities how you can be involved,” she said.
One proactive initiative that is proving to be effective in building developmental assets is what is known as the Positive Ticketing Program, a program that gives kids the opportunity to earn BGC vouchers which may be redeemed for free program days in the club.
A youth may receive a BGC Voucher for a number of positive behaviours including showing respect for themselves, other and their environment, doing various good deeds, participating in community activities, demonstrating community pride and recognizing youth for practicing personal safety.
“This is a great way to acknowledge kids for their positive attitudes and contributions while building their confidence,” said Pearse.
The BGC Voucher program will begin in February 2013 and children must be registered club members to receive vouchers.
