Another hunting season was completed in the Crowsnest Pass, and John Clarke, Fish and Wildlife Officer for the Blairmore District reported that the season was a busy one.
“We wrote quite a number of tickets,” said Clarke. “Right now we’re just starting to go through the court processes.”
The hunting season, which started in September and ended in late November, although certain areas of hunting such a cougar and cow elk hunting are still in occurrence, is a busy season for Fish and Wildlife.
Clarke explained that some of the tickets issued by officers throughout the season are paid soon after they are given but some require a longer time frame to be paid.
“Some of the bigger cases go in front of a court,” said Clarke.
He explained that a big horned sheep was shot in the wrong zone and the head was removed from the carcass this past hunting season. The matter is still under investigation.
Clarke explained that people were also found of shooting rifles in in the wrong zone. The cases are still being processed in the Court of Queens Bench.
In comparison to last year, this year’s hunting season was considered a busier season.
“There were a variety of tickets issued including tickets for drinking, littering, fish and wildlife poaching and trespassing,” said Clarke.
Trapping season has recently started in the Pass and will continue into the New Year.
