A local group in the Crowsnest Pass is working towards helping out a resident while achieving a world record.
A group called Champions for Brenda is hoping to bring change to the community by raising money for Brenda MacDonald, who is in the process of waiting for a double lung transplant.
The group is focused on helping Brenda MacDonald, who is in current need of a double lung transplant.
The big project the group is currently working on, is a 51-hour floor hockey tournament, from February 1st to February 3rd. The group is asking help from students and community members to volunteer their time. Champions for Brenda need a minimum of 30 people to play hockey for 51 hours for the event. The participants will be divided into teams and will be playing in shifts. Teams will not all be playing at the same time.
The current world record for playing consistent floor hockey is held by Winston Churchill School in Lethbridge, who played floor hockey for 50 consecutive hours.

“We want the community to get involved by participating as players and collecting pledges as a player,” said Jody Peebles, a former teacher of Tracey MacDonald, the son of Brenda. Peebles currently teaches at CCHS in Coleman.
“We also need community members to sponsor players by collecting pledges as well.”
All donations go to Brenda MacDonald.
The goal profit is $70,000, the amount Brenda Thomas needs for the double lung transplant and all expenses associated with the operations.
“It would be great if this sole floor hockey event in February would bring us enough funds,” said blank. “But we do have tons of ideas and if we don’t raise enough with this event, we have other plans we will implement.”
In case of tragedy and Brenda is not able to use the funds, the money raised will go back into the community.
The event will not be possible without the 30 volunteers.
For more information, or to volunteer, Jody Peebles can be contacted at 403-563-5785 or emailed at peeblesj@lrsd.ab.ca.
