It’s that time of year again
Better fill up the coffee mug to the brim because school is back in session, sports teams and clubs are having their start up meetings and monthly conferences that paused during the summer have now resumed.
It is September, and the Crowsnest Pass is back in action. Unlike every other September I have lived since I was six years old, this September is an eccentric one for me, as this is the first September in 16 years that I will not be returning to a school for another semester of education.
It feels like yesterday that I nestled into the Pass, new and unfamiliar, covering events like the high school graduation and the last day of school.
It feels like yesterday and I wish it was. I know many people in the Crowsnest Pass now and in all sincerity, I miss meeting new faces and giving the “new girl in town” introduction that I have mastered after my move here. I miss getting lost on dusty back road because I was sure of a short cut.
But as my introductions quickly turned into regular chitchats, so did the warm weather, as it started to turn cool.
It’s official start-up season again and I am ready to jump into the action that will be happening this season in the Crowsnest Pass.
Sports will soon be in full swing and schools will be hosting events for students and parents.
I have been told time and time again that autumn is the busiest time of the year for journalists, and although autumn does not officially start for another four days, I am feeling the brunt of it. And I have never been more excited to do my job.
I cannot wait for what the season will entail and the eventful activities for which I am already bracing myself. I am so excited for autumn in fact, I hope autumn never ends, because that way, winter will never come.
Now there is a season I can wait for. I am not a fan of the white powder that falls from the sky, which forces me to sit in my car for an hour while my car heats up because I forgot to plug in my block heaterand strands me in the ditch after my car skids on ice.
But on the flip side, I have heard that the Crowsnest Pass has extraordinary Christmas events, so I suppose there is a silver lining.
Crowsnest Pass, it has been a phenomenal summer. I am looking forward to standing on the fields, courts, arenas and grounds with my camera, coffee mug and wool scarf.
