The Crowsnest Pass Minor Hockey Association celebrated Minor Hockey Day and Vice President of the Association, Chad Petrone, said the day went great.
“We played very well on Saturday and it was an overall success,” said Petrone. He explained that a problem with Minor Hockey Day is to get everyone together on the same day and play back to back is near to impossible. But even with the hindrance, the day went fairly smoothly in comparison to other years. Players were also treated with hotdogs and pop after the games to celebrate another great day of Minor Hockey.
Petrone said that like minor Hockey Day, the hockey season is also going well. “All the teams are doing well and working hard,” said Petrone.
On Thursday, January 17th, the Crowsnest Atoms tied in their first provincial game against the Pincher Creek Chinooks.
“All they need is just to win by a goal and they’re off to the next round,” said Petrone.
He explained that there are a lot of new families getting involved in hockey this season with new faces excited about the game.
Also unique to this season is the fact that there are a total of five girls playing on the novice teams.
“There are no girls higher up but the girls are on the novice teams now, which means they will work their way up,’ said Petrone.
“For novice, five girls is the most girls we have had in a very long time, if ever.”
Hockey season is expected to wrap up in March.
