First annual Winter Carnival
will be held this weekend

A new winter carnival will be coming to community for the first year, a celebration that will focus on the heritage and past of the Pass.
The first annual Winter Carnival will be held during the weekend of February 22nd-24th, and will be initiated by the Crowsnest Culture and Recreation Society. The target of the three-day event will be to allow different organizations, businesses and groups to host an event for the community.
The theme of the event this year will be “Crowsnest Past and its people,” focusing on the past people of the community. “It’s our first year and we are very optimistic,” said Wendy Valley. “Lots of hard work and planning went into making this event possible.”
On Friday, February 22nd, a photography contest will be held by Shootin’ the Breeze and Mountainside Printing and a “Death by Chocolate” buffet will occur at Stones Throw Café in Blairmore from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
On Saturday, February 23rd, Lions’ Club will host a Pancake breakfast at Elks Hall in Blairmore starting at 8 a.m., a Sole survivor foot race will start at 10 a.m., meeting at the Elks Hall and at 12 p.m., a Frying Pan Toss will be held at Gazebo Park in Blairmore.
One toonie will pay for three tosses for the event and the closest toss to the pin without going over decides the winner.
At 1 p.m. on February 23rd, a human dog sled race will take place at Gazebo Park in Blairmore. Teams of three are required for the race, $15 per team. Sleds are provided and sponsors are welcome.
Country Encounters will be catering a dinner at 6 p.m. at the Elks Hall, on February 23rd, with a dance and silent auction. The night will feature Calgary band Tequila Rain. Tickets sell for $45 each, or $40 when a table of eight is booked. Tickets are sold at Stone’s Throw Café and Cinnamon Bear Café in Coleman.
Finally, at 6:30 p.m. Crowsnest Pass Cross-Country Ski Association will be hosting the Moonlight Ski at Allison Chinook Provincial Recreation Area. A Headlamp is recommended for the event. Hot chocolate will also be sold.
On Sunday, February 24th, the Crowsnest Pass Boys and Girls Club, in conjunction with 40 Assets Group will be hosting a tobogganing event at Fireman’s Park in Bellevue.
