As I have said a hundred times and will probably say a hundred more, news never gets boring in Crowsnest Pass. From recent developments in the community, the latest news stories I have been chasing include a hotel development to be built in the community of Blairmore, a new Municipal brand that was introduced in late January and the Master Fire Plan that was presented last Tuesday during a Governance and Priorities Committee meeting by Director of Community and Protective Services, Albert Headrick.
As can assumed for any change in a community, the latest news stories have triggered a mixture of reactions-mostly negative- and have also triggered a new spout of promises from local residents.
Many of these promises, or should I say, warnings, are coming from people assuring townspeople that they will be running for candidacy in the upcoming municipal election in October.
However, I have to wonder, are these people ready to step up and put the effort forth to make the change they say the community needs, or are they just angry?
It is easy to make threats when we are angry; we have all done it. But how genuine are these grand announcements for candidacy? I have to wonder how much spite is behind the recent election declarations.
I am not endorsing or condemning our local council members but I will say that their job is tougher than it looks. I truly believe that we should walk a mile in the shoes of someone before we look at their job descriptions and say “yeah, I could do that better.”
But from the looks of things, people will be trying to do just that when the election comes up in just over half a year. Kudos to anyone who will try to step up to the plate and run for a seat on council. As someone who is obligated to attend all regular council meetings, I can assure you it is not an easy job. That is not to say, however, that change will not do the community good. It will be an interesting election. I almost can’t wait.
