There is a new doctor in town and is presently accepting new patients. Doctor Colin Muscat started at the Crowsnest Medical Clinic in Bellevue in mid-February and says that his first month in the Pass has been a great one.
Muscat received his medical degree at the University of Alberta and completed his family medicine training, at the University of Calgary.
In addition to Alberta’s two big cities, Muscat has also lived and done medical training in Lethbridge, Rocky Mountain House, Yellowknife and Pincher Creek.
He is originally from Winnipeg.
“The Pass is a beautiful place to live,” said Muscat, who is hoping to start a practice at the Bellevue clinic with his wife in the future.
“I think we’ve always been small town people at heart,” he said. "We spent a lot of time in smaller communities for a lot of the training we needed to do, so we are used to the small town lifestyle.”
Although Muscat has travelled all over Alberta, he has spent some time doing locum work in the Pass prior to his arrival in February.
“It was a nice little transition, and it helped me get used to the area,” he said, adding he has found people here to be friendly and welcoming.
“It seems like a great community.”
Muscat said that another reason he loves the area is because of all the outdoor activities that are readily available to him, including .hiking, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding and camping.
A practice that he is hoping to share with his wife is planned to start in July 1st of this year.
As for the long run, Muscat has no plans of leaving the Pass anytime soon.
