Chief Administrative Officer Myron Thompson met with the Municipal District of Ranchlands to discuss the possibility of an annexation or amalgamation of their district with the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
The meeting, which occurred on Friday, March 22nd, was primarily to begin dialog and communication between Ranchlands and the Pass.
“We want to provide them with our issues and concerns, and listen to their issues and concerns,” said Thompson at Tuesday, March 26th’s regular council meeting.
Whether the MD of Ranchlands will annex or amalgamate with the Crowsnest Pass is unclear, or if either will happen at all. Discussion is in its beginning stages.
“The object is to improve our sustainability in the long term.”
Thompson emphasized that although discussion has started, no definite actions have been decided upon.
This is a very complex issue and one that goes back several of years,” he said.
The discussion includes looking at extending the municipal boundaries and the option of revenue sharing.
“It’s a process,” said Thompson.”
The primary purpose of the meeting was for dialog and discussion. Administration plans on having another meeting with the MD Ranchlands in the near future.
