The fifth annual Charity Bike Rideand Kids Fun Run is set for another year and organizers predict this year to be the best attended ride yet.
The charity event, put on by Able Dental Group is a bike ride that stretches over a 150 km distance, starting in the parking lot beside Crowsnest Lake and ending in Lethbridge.
“It started small,” said Connie Hansen, Marketing Director of Able Dental Group in Lethbridge.
Owner of Able Dental Group, Bryan Murray, his wife and several friends were the first to partake in the ride, back in 2009.
“They drove out to the Alberta B.C. border and then road home to Lethbridge,” Hansen said.
This year, the Charity Bike Ride will take place on June 15th, with the race starting at around 9 a.m.
The bikers make two pit stops for water and food, one in Pincher Creek and one in Fort Macleod.
The finish line is in Galt Gardens Park, in downtown Lethbridge.
In addition to the charity bike ride, Able Dental Group also puts on a Kids Fun Run the same day, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. There a two runs, a 5 km run and a 3 km run.
The ages for the Fun Run are from 5 to 13 years-old.
“ All the kids do their fun run in the morning and then in the afternoon we have live bands, kids games and carnivals, while we wait for the bikers to get back,” said Hansen.
Donations are encouraged for both events, money that will be raised for the Lethbridge School District Kids of Poverty and the Lethbridge Association for Community Living.
Registration forms for the Charity Bike Ride and the Fun Run can be found online at abledentalgroup.com. Donations can also be made online, on the same website.
“It’s a really fun experience,” said Hansen. “Coming through the finish line and having crowds full of people at the BBQ waiting for you make it a very memorable time”.
