On Wednesday, May-22nd, the Crowsnest Pass Pool Board Authority met at the Blairmore Library and hold their Annual General Meeting to discuss the past year of the Pool Board.
New to the board and introduced at the meeting were Pauline Beech, Judy Sciarra, and Dave Liddell. It was explained at the meeting that although Beech, Sciarra and Liddell are members of the board, without council’s approval of their new membership, they do not have voting rights until council approves them, according to bylaw.
One of the first issues discussed at the meeting was the possibility of a hot tub. It was said that a hot tub is on the list for future projects but because of commercial specifications the cost for a hot tub is very high.
Members discussed some of the concerns of the pool board. The first concern discussed was the lack of communication between the Pool Board and Administration.
“What disturbs me are the changes that have been applied to the pool board this spring,” said President of the Board, Leone Stacheruk.
These changes include the hiring of a manager who was a board member, the decision that there would be no assistant manager and the terms of the manager’s agreement.
“It was wrong the way the manager was hired,” said Stacheruk. “We were not informed that she was hired, we did not see her resume and we did not see her qualifications.”
“We try to have discussions with administration but they have yet to give us any real answers,” said Stacheruk.
“I have made two requests to appear in council and I did not get any answers from Myron.”
Myron Thompson is the Chief Administrative Officer for the Municipality.
“I feel like they have tried to intimidate us,” she said. “They insisted we meet with the administrators before going to council. I just don’t see the point in that.
“We don’t know what councillors are being told and that is a problem,” said Stacheruk. “We need to come to some sort of an agreement with the municipality.”
Another concern discussed was new projects taking priority over old projects, including a new fence.
The new fence is to provide wind protection and privacy. It will be about four feet high and cost $240.
“This project may have priority, but there other projects that have greater priority,” said Stacheruk, explaining that the pool has been in need of a new liner for several years.
