After 18 years in the community, the Blairmore Legion building has been sold.
Around two weeks ago, the Blairmore Legion building, located on 129th Street and 20th Avenue in Blairmore, was sold to Able Dental Group, a dental company that is hoping to expand their business by opening up in a larger location.
Able Dental Group will move into the former Legion building on August 1st.
The decision to sell the Legion was made at a private meeting that took place on Monday, April 22nd, after it became clear to board members that finances to manage the building were too high.
“We are in the process of looking for another venue,” said Paul Kenny, President of the Blairmore Legion. “But it all depends on the cost. Unfortunately the Legion only has so much money to spend, so it’s important we put the money to where we will be comfortable and functional.”
The Blairmore Legion club will remain in the building until July, when they will close the building until Able Dental Group moves in a month later.
Kenny explained that although the building was home to them and was in a prime location, the cost to operate was too high for them to afford and the space was more than they needed.
Kenny said that no changes will be made to the Legion club itself other than it having a smaller facility to carry out its numerous events and functions.
The Legion is now just less than 10,000 square feet.
“We’re going to need a lot of men from our membership to pack up and move away,” said Kenny. “It’s going to be a big task.”
The Blairmore Legion was built in 1985 and the Legion has been in the building ever since. Currently, The Blairmore Legion has 141 members.
