For many women, the two most important and loved days in their lives are their wedding day and the day of their high school prom.
And for most, high school prom comes first in their lives, making it their first big day to dress up like a princess.
Young girls will spend hours and hundreds of dollars scouring dress boutiques to find the perfect gown to wow their dates and friends, each convinced they will be the prettiest belle at the ball.
Prom should be a happy night for every girl who attends it, as it is the celebration of a big milestone in their lives- finishing grade school and moving on to the next chapter of their lives.
However, that was not the case for a young 18 year-old girl in Washington State. Brittany Minder was sent away from the doors of her prom because her dress was showing too much cleavage.
She had spent months looking for the perfect dress for the end-of-term dance held at her high school, Central Kitsap High School. However, after dressing up and getting her hair and make up done, she was asked to leave her prom, or cover up her dress.
The regulations at her school prohibit outfits that expose cleavage, midriff and the lower back.
Minder, who travelled up to Canada to buy her dress, which was a purple studded gown, feels that the embarrassing treatment she received from her school was unfair and uncalled for.
Minder has said in interviews that she believes the rule is unfair to her because she struggles to hide her big chest, and it was hard to prevent at least a little cleavage when trying to find a dress for prom.
The school let her in to prom after she covered up with a shawl, but she felt uncomfortable and embarrassed and left after just an hour.
How unfortunate that the school felt the need to enforce the strict rules on a young girl’s special night, especially since she was graduating and wouldn’t be returning to school much, if at all, after prom night.
She told reporters in an interview that an important night of her life was ruined, and that there is no way of ever getting that back. How sad.
