The Blairmore Legion will be hosting a special fundraiser for former local Kelly Lang, who recently was diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant frontal, Glioblastoma brain tumor.
On January 26th, 2013, Lang was diagnosed and underwent surgery less than a week later on February 1st. The surgery removed 95 per cent of the tumor and for the remaining five per cent; she will undergo chemotherapy for another year.
Two years ago, Lang and her husband, Aaron, moved to Red Deer with their two children in order for Aaron to attend Olds College to further his career in Golf Course Management.
Kelly secured employment with Premier Integrated Technologies, a job that she enjoyed and had many successes with.
However, because of her medical condition, she was unable to work and Aaron was forced to drop his final semester of school to care for Lang and the two children.
Kelly hopes to return to work in the fall and Aaron hopes to return to school in January.
The Kelly Lang Fundraiser has the goal of raising money to help Kelly and Aaron Lang get back on their feet and get them back on track with their goals.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 6th, with Kelly and Aaron in attendance.
Tickets for the fundraiser are $25 per person.
Debra Davidson helped with the fundraiser and said that the fundraiser was primarily organized to take the edge off the Lang family.
“Kelly worked at the Greenhill for years with me,” said Davidson. “When I found out she was sick, we thought we should help her out. They’ve taken a pretty good hit financially. We want to help them out.”
The night will include a steak, chicken or fish dinner, and a night of music featuring local band Vaudeville Rant as the main performance.
Tickets can be purchased at the Greenhill Hotel. There will be a $15 cover charge for people who do not wish to attend dinner, or for those who have missed the deadline to purchase tickets. T The deadline to purchase tickets is Tuesday, July 2nd.
“I think it will be an awesome night,” said Kathy Lang, the mother in-law of Kelly Lang.
“I hope it accomplishes many things and helps out my daughter in-law.
There will be many opportunities to make further donations to Kelly and Aaron Lang at the fundraiser, including a wishing well, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.
Davidson said that the organizers of the event were overwhelmed by the support of local businesses that helped make this evening possible.
