The ducks are back for another year. The third annual duck race, put on by the Crowsnest Boys and Girls Club, is set to take place on Saturday, July 20th, in conjunction with this year’s Rum Runner Days.
A total of 1680 rubber ducks will be racing along Crowsnest River, all numbered and linked to a raffle ticket that can be purchased. The people with the raffle tickets that are linked to the first and last ducks to cross the finish line will win a prize.
The ducks will be dropped in the river and set free to race at 3 p.m. on July 20th, at the Blairmore Centre Access Bridge.
They will race down the Crowsnest River to the finish line, which will be located in Frank. Volunteers will be in the river to pick out the winning ducks and announce the winners.
There are two different colours of ducks, yellow ducks, which are sold for $5 each and green ducks, which are sold for $20 each.
There will be 1,200 yellow ducks and 480 green ducks.
The prize for the first yellow duck to cross the finish line is a ATCO BBQ package valued at $850. The prize for the last yellow duck is a Great Canadian Barn Dance package valued at $350.
The prize for the first green duck to cross the finish line is $1,500 in cash, and the prize for the last green duck is $500 in cash.
Raffle tickets can be purchased in the parking lot of Sobeys at noon every day, where the Boys and Girls Club will have a booth set up. Tickets can also be purchased at Servus Credit Union in Coleman, Chris’ Restaurant in Coleman and Stone’s Throw in Blairmore.
All money raised will go toward the Crowsnest Boys and Girls Club.
“We hope to raise money for the club, as fundraisers like this really go a long way,” said Scott Warris, President of the Boys and Girls Club, who said that last year, the duck race raised $800 for the boys and girls club.
“It’s a fun event for the kids to watch and we all seem to have a good time.”
Tickets can be purchased right up until an hour before the duck race.
