With the 2013 municipal election quickly approaching, Council is required under the Local Authorities Election Act to appoint a returning officer to conduct the 2013 Municipal Election.
Blairmore local, Lisa Sygutek has been the chosen by Council for the position, as she has had experience preforming the duties of the Returning Officer in 2004 and 2007.
Marion Vanoni, Director of Finance and Corporate Services was administration’s recommendation for the job, however councillors hesitated with the suggestion, questioning if there is someone with more experience in the community for the job.
Historically, the Returning Officer Position was contracted position acting under the direction of the director of Finance and Corporate Services. However, as of July 10th, 2012, the Municipality has not received any applications for the position and having to move forward with the preparation and management of the 2013 Municipal election, appointed Sygutek, who accepted.
Once appointed, the Returning Officer must subscribe to an official oath as per section 16 of the Local Authorities Act prior to assuming duties.
