Constable Sean McKenna is the new face in town. Moving to Crowsnest Pass from Brooks, Alberta, McKenna says that the beautiful scenery and the kind faces in the community have welcomed him well.
“This community is a little bit more laid back than what I’m used to,” said McKenna.
“This place is a little more pro police.”
McKenna moved to Crowsnest Pass on June 1st, after five years in Brooks.
Before Brooks, he spent time in Regina, Saskatchewan, to complete his police training.
He is originally from Ottawa, Ontario.
For McKenna, police services were what he had wanted to do for a long time.
“I was raised in a strict family, with my dad in the air force,” he said. “I knew that it was either a job in the air force or a job policing and I chose policing.”
McKenna said that there are a lot of perks to his job that he takes joy in, one being that he is never stuck behind a desk for too long.
“Every day is a little different with my job,” he said. “Plus with this place in particular, the scenery is hard to beat.”
McKenna s enjoys almost any and every sport out there. He appreciates the scenery every time he takes his two dogs, a great dane and a golden retriever great Pyrenees cross, for a walk.
He also noted that he is looking forward to skiing when the snow comes back.
“I think this is a great community with a lot to offer,” he said.
McKenna plans to stay in the Pass for another three to five years minimum, if not longer.
He also hopes to get a promotion or two in the future, to slowly work his way up the ranks.
However, in the long run, McKenna hopes to return to a big city, either in Calgary or Edmonton.
But in the meantime, Crowsnest Pass still provides a challenge and some beautiful scenery, so McKenna is in no hurry to leave.
“I’m going to stay here as long as I can,” he said.
“I am happy to be here and I am looking forward to the next three to five years in the Pass.”
