Mayor Bruce Decoux called a regular council meeting to order on Tuesday, August 6th, at the Municipal offices in Coleman. Missing from the meeting was Councillor Siegbert Gail. Here are some of the highlights:
CAO Report
Myron Thompson gave a report regarding working in the town office.
Albert Hedrick, Director of Protective and Community Services is leaving his position effective August 16th. Administration is actively recruiting for a new Director of Protective Services.
Ice has been installed at the Coleman Sports Complex for upcoming RickRyp Hockey camp as well as other sports related activities.
Thompson informed council that approximately $200,000 in fines have been levied in the past year. Revenue comes from by-law and traffic infractions.
Fire and Rescue received 12 reported 911 calls with six more people being certified as fire fighters.
TransRockies came through the Crowsnest Pass and was attended my members of council.
Devon gave the municipality an air compressor. According to Thompson the present one owned by the town is falling apart. The compressor will be used to fill low and high-pressure vessels for fire and rescue. The municipality had earmarked the purchase of a new compressor in the 2015 budget making the donation a savings to the town in the area of about $50,000.
Banners have been installed throughout the Crowsnest Pass.
The province approved additional trail building on Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill by Uroc in conjunction with the funding provided by Teck. Uroc is presently looking for contractors to build the trails.
Temporary surface repairs will be made on the roadway in front of Coleman Remedy’s Rx store.
A Recreational Feasibility study is under way.
The Culture and Heritage board held their first meeting on July 25th.
Stantec did assessment for flood damages in the Crowsnest Pass. The document will be sent to Alberta Government.
In ground utilities repairs on-going for next 5 weeks
Election Officer, Lisa Sygutek, starting August 7th.
11 Dell computer systems bought through MSI grant.
Election Update
Advance Poll to be held on Tuesday, October 15th at the Elks Hall in Blairmore. Nomination Day is Sept. 23, with a 24-hour recall of nomination ending on September 24.
Institutional vote will take place on Election Day at the Crowsnest Pass Health Centre, Tecumseh Apartments, Westwind Apartments and the York Creek Lodge on October 21st, Election Day.
Voting subdivision for the election are the following: Coleman residents cast votes at the Crowsnest Pass Sports Complex, Blairmore residents at the Elk Hall and Hillcrest/Bellevue residents at MDM Community Centre.
Board Appointment
Concillor Saindon made a motion that, “council appoint Lisa Larson to fulfill the current interim vacancy on the Municipal Ski Hill authority for the term ending December 31, 2104. The motion was passed unanimously.
Pincher Parade
The town of Pincher Creek invited the municipality to enter their float and/or have council representation at their Pincher Creek Fair and Rodeo on August 17th. Councillor Lonsbury stated that the municipality has close relations with the town of Pincher Creek and should make every effort to attend. Mayor Decoux stated that he would attend the parade as well. The float will also be put in the parade.
