A ‘Harvest of Memories’ at the Crowsnest Greenhouse

Beaded lights strung from the roof and hanging from homegrown foliage illuminated the inside of the Spring Break Garden Centre in Hillcrest for the people attending the annual Harvest of Memories Fall Festival, September 28th.
The gala featured a catered dinner, music by both Starlite (DJ) and Groves Music, and a live and silent auction with all proceeds from the night going to the Crowsnest Pass Museum.
“Approximately $25,000 was raised throughout the evening,” said Fred Bradley, president of the Crowsnest Pass Historical Society.
“(The money raised) goes toward the operations of the Crowsnest Pass Museum,” said Bradley, “It’s basically to keep the museum open.”
There were raffles for both a chance to win a seat at the VIP table and the wine extravaganza- a shot at taking home a table filled with different selections of wine.
“You’ve got bragging rights for the year,” explained Luke Fokkens, owner of Ropak Concrete Management after winning the VIP table which included the chance to sit seven friends with them and a first shot at dinner.
“It’s awesome, we know a lot of people here, so the whole night is great,” Fokkens said.
Fokkens also took home a copy of the painting ‘Aging Gracefully’ by Shahnaz Shahmohamed following the live auction.
Some of the other items up for grabs during the nights live auction included; a Henrik Sedin autographed cap and photograph (donated by the Vancouver Canucks), a stained glass piece (The Stained Glass Gallery) and a Harry Potter Russian Stacking Doll Set (Fred Bradley).
Items in the silent auction were donated by people and businesses of the Crowsnest Pass area including; a travel tote (Pat Rypien), a heritage classic hockey jersey (Bighorn Custom Homes and Renovations), a wine gift basket (A&B Liquor) and a golf cupboard (An Old Crow).
“On behalf of the Crowsnest Pass Historical Society we would like to thank the businesses, Teck Coal, members of the community and the people who attended the gala,” said Bradley.
The Crowsnest Historical Society would also like to express a heartfelt thanks to auctioneer Bob Westrop, Groves Music (for the music during cocktail hour) and the Masons for bartending.
An additional thanks goes out to all the volunteers for making this event possible, including Country Encounters Catering, who hired on additional people from the local community to help out with the evening’s event.
