The first annual Crowsnest Pass Camo Fest, “Blessing of the Hunt”, is coming to Crowsnest Pass, October 18.
The day and night long event will feature 20 confirmed vendors (at press time), a guest speaker, kids activities, demonstrations/workshops in the afternoon, evening entertainment (a Yuk-Yuks comedian and concession) and, a live band, The Chevelles.
“It really fits with the culture of the community-it’s definitely something a large population in the community takes part in,” says Sacha Anderson, with Community Futures Crowsnest Pass and Timber and Tines.
“We do get lot of people who come from outside Crowsnest Pass; Brooks, Saskatchewan, Medicine Hat and Red Deer who come out for the hunting here,” according to Anderson.
The day’s events run from 12-5 PM and the nights entertainment and events will run from 7pm until late at night (2 or 3AM).
“Jason Acorn from The Boneyard on Wild TV will be talking about hunting and filming your hunt, his experiences, with hunting and working with a pro film crew.”says Anderson.
Kids activities are also available; from a crafts table for younger kids, an archery setup for older kids and an Alberta Hunter Education Program.
“Hopefully the Alberta Hunter Education Program will bring a laser gun simulator.” Anderson says.
Some of the other day’s events include; how to pack a horse, fly-fishing demos and search and rescue skill demonstration.
“There is also a mounted head display, so, if you have a cool/unique mount or one that has awesome story you would like to share and display you are welcome to come and show it off at the MDM on Friday.” says Anderson.
Scott Dumas, a comedian with Yuk Yuk’s, will make an experience for the evenings events.
The nights’ activities are for people 18 years and older only because liquor will be served.
Blessing of the Hunt will feature an Elk Bugling Contest and a raffle contest (tickets are $5) with three prizes; 1st prize is an Antler Carving (donated by Timber n’ Tines), 2nd prize is an Ducks Unlimited Print, (donated by Ducks Unlimited) and a $50 gift certificate to Back Country Butchering, says Anderson.
The event is a Crowsnest Pass Agricultural Society Initiative with all proceeds are going towards community projects, according to Anderson.
