For one Crowsnest Pass Resident, it’s the chance of a lifetime.Dave Dingerville has been a team roper for over 40 years and on December 14th he has a chance for a piece of the 6 million dollars up for grabs at the World Series of Team Roping competition in Las Vegas. “I’m feelin’ good about it,” says Dingerville. “I’ll probably never be able to make it again in my life.” Dingerville had to win a total of $5000 from different team roping competitions in places like; Claresholm, Medicine Hat, Drumheller and Olds to qualify for a shot at the Championships in Vegas Friday, December 13th. The World Series of Team Roping is divided into four categories. Dingerville will compete in the Bloomer Amateur WSTR Final Rotation against 600 other teams. Each rotation describes what style of roping the participant uses; Dingerville is a heeler (meaning he lasso’s steers by their heels). The WSTR Final Rotation allows each team three different chances to rope three steers and you’re times are compiled for each steer you rope - then the best times are chosen. The average time for roping is 10 seconds per steer although Dingerville places his best times at 5.5 and 5.8 seconds. “You just do the best with what you’re drawn,” Dingerville says. “It’s kind of different- it’s Vegas you know,” he says, adding the Vegas competition has a special Wildcard stipulation if you miss your first steer and catch your second, you can use the Wildcard and whatever you flip, you can rope in a different rotation. “I just want to thank all of my sponsors who are making it happen,” says Dingerville, mentioning the Crowsnest Pass Agricultural Society and Kananaskis Pro Rodeo among those he wants to thank. Dingerville has roped all of his life, since he was 14 years old, he says. He won a Canadian Championship in Team Roping in High River, Ab. in 1985. HOME PAGE
