Riversdale Resources Ltd. is letting residents of Crowsnest Pass and surrounding communities know of a new safety plan they have on Grassy Mountain Road.

Riversdale would like to inform the community it will be commencing drilling operation on its Grassy Mountain Project, approximately 6 kilometres north of Blairmore, according to a December 4th press release.

“The new traffic safety measures will be effective immediately and are in response to the start of drilling operations the week of December 9th,” said Keith Bott, safety and security consultant with Riversdale.

“We just want to manage it.”

The use of larger equipment does increase the risk of incidents involving vehicles travelling on the Grassy Mountain Road.

In the interest of the safety of the community and the employees/contractors of Riversdale, we ask that the community limit the use of the Grassy Mountain Road where possible so as to reduce the risk of incidents, said the release.

A safety person will be monitoring the Grassy Mountain trail to advise users of the current activity as it happens and ensure the local community is fully informed of the location of activity,.

Riversdale has placed signs along the Grassy Mountain Road indicating where activities are taking place.

“We are going to deal with it as it shows up,” said Bott, who will be acting as the safety person on the road.


Bott will redirect traffic before things become too congested, potentially increasing an incident between people driving on Grassy Mountain Road, recreational users and the Riversdale transport vehicles.

The drilling will mark the beginning of ground based activities under Riversdale ownership, said the release.

The initial drill program involves drilling 15 to 20 holes and is expected to take approximately 3 months.

The drilling program will be followed in 2014 with a more extensive program and other ground based activities.
