Acute and long-term residents of the Crowsnest Pass Hospital have one more reason to look forward to Christmas this year.

The Crowsnest Pass Ladies Auxiliary and Crowsnest Pass Hospital Foundation are sewing and stuffing stockings to give to acute/long-term care, lab/x-ray patients and emergency patients this holiday season.

“The stockings are a little extra something for Acute Care patients and long-term residents that are spending time in the hospital during the iholidays, it’s something to brighten their day,” said Megan DeBoer coordinator of volunteer resources at Crowsnest Pass Hospital.

“It’s a great way to spread Christmas cheer!”

Volunteers with the Ladies Auxiliary and Hospital Foundation made four different types of stockings for the patients at the hospital, December 10th.

“Monetary donations were obtained from the CNP Ladies Auxiliary and the CNP Hospital Foundation.”

“Small gifts and fabric were purchased at local retailers, and auxiliary members and other CNP hospital volunteers helped by sewing fabric stockings.”

An adult male or female resident of acute care would receive a stocking items like; a candy cane, socks, a pen and a crossword book while kids staying in acute care will receive things like Play-Doh, toy/candy treat bags and a candy cane or chocolate bar in their stocking.

Male long term care residents will receive items like razors, aftershave, candies, and a comb while female residents receive items like nail polish and remover, candies and body wash.

“Our goal is to have each patient spending Christmas in Acute Care receive a stocking, and any that are left are to be given out to X-Ray /Lab patients, Emergency department patients, etc. This is a great project, as it involves residents, patients, staff and volunteers.”

“On Christmas Eve, December 24th, nursing staff working nights will be asked to act as Santa’s elves and deliver the stocking to each patient’s bedside, so they have gift to wake up to Christmas morning,” said DeBoer.
