Any interaction where you’re constantly dealing with other people on a regular basis is challenging at the best of times. We all have different quirks, mannerisms, behaviors and habits. The trouble occurs when you have two or more conflicting personalities forced to cooperate in the same atmosphere. The environment doesn’t take long to become toxic and unfortunately an incident is inevitable when there’s no other way to resolve the conflicting behaviors between the two. This perfectly describes me and the events of last weekend.
For the most part, I think of myself as a patient and understanding person, considering the background of who I used to be and where I’ve come from. Lord knows that I’m the last one to throw stones at glass houses. But I had the displeasure of finding my breaking point when it comes to dealing with the liabilities of other people. The truth of the matter is that I’ve now discovered an intolerance I’ve developed towards people who I can’t depend or rely on to follow through with anything they claim. Apparently, I can’t seem to handle the disappointment it causes.
I know that this might seem ignorant or arrogant of me to take personally, due to the fact that I’ve been a disappointment to the ones who’ve depended on me in the past. However, since I’m trying to take some pride in the value of my word and who I’m trying to become today, I feel that being undependable is one of the worst qualities a person can possess.
I’m fairly confident that we’ve all had the aggravating experience of dealing with these types of people before. They either change the plans that directly affect you at the last second without consideration, or fail to follow through with any of the promises they ever make. They are self-absorbed and unaware of anything or anyone around them and constantly infect the lives of anyone who allows them another chance to prove themselves.
After tasting the bitterness of the disappointment that follows being let down by the one’s you hope to depend on, I’ve decided that my word is now the most important thing I can value. So, I ask you all, when has it become acceptable in our daily lives to serve each other with false hope and fake lip service without the threat of any consequence? And at what point are you forced to remove these types of people from your life?
Being dependable is one of the most loving and honorable things you can be for the ones you love. Knowing that you’re going to follow through with exactly what you say you’ll do is the very definition or dependability and a trait we should all celebrate in the greatest of regards. I, for one, would like to thank all the people around here who take pride in their word and continue to live up to this personal standard because being reliable is the key component to friendship.
