Bulldog the steers and drink some beers it’s rodeo time. April 24 to 26 is your chance to see some downright ornery rodeo action as some of North America’s best cowboys and cowgirls compete in the 33rd annual Kananaskis Pro Rodeo at the Crowsnest Pass Sports Complex.
Come, bring your Stetson, mount your steed and watch the contestants throw down in bareback riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, tie down roping, saddle bronc, team roping, and bull riding.
The Kananaskis Rodeo Association (KRA) promises you’ll be so close to the action that you’ll get dirt in your beer, which is nice. Coleman Arena has been filled with tons of dirt for the occasion.
This is one of the first pro rodeo events of the season and will feature competitors from the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.
This year’s event will feature the madcap comedy stylings of rodeo clown Dennis Halstead who will also make sure nobody gets trampled.
There will also be mutton bustin’ during intermission. To register call Diana Bailey at (403) 563-3124. Participants must be five or under and have a helmet.

A Sheep Ribbon Bike Pull will also be held. Two bikes will be available for ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 12.
There will be a dance at the Coleman Legion Friday night featuring Common Soul and don’t forget Saturday’s KRA Cabaret at the Coleman arena, which will feature mechanical bull rides and the country sounds of Montana’s Copper Mountain Band. Tickets are $15 and can be pre-purchased at Sears and the Rose Peddler.
Sunday is “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” day so make sure to show up clothed in pink to show your support for the fight against breast cancer.
Last week, KRA members Jolayne Collings, Joanne Trotz, Sid Collings and Jude Ewashenwere were riding around the community selling sheriff badges.
Buy one for the chance to win raffle prizes from a host of local businesses. The badges are available for $2 from KRA members or Sears in Blairmore.
Admission to the rodeo is $15 for adults, $7 for children and seniors. Entrance is free for children aged 5 and under.
