With an active board in place and a new program director appointed, the Boys and Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass is moving onwards and upwards in the Crowsnest Pass.
“It is with great excitement and pride that we are able to announce a full roster of summer programming,” says Karey Lee, Program Director. “We feel these programs will meet an important need for youth of Crowsnest Pass.”
According to Lee, the club has a whole slate of new faces, an artist and athlete and a caregiver and the group is exctied to start their summer activities.
Lee, has been an active community member both with the Boys and Girls Club and with the UROC riding group in the Crowsnest Pass. She has taught in Japan and is enjoying her time here in the Crowsnest Pass.
“We’re starting fresh,” says Lee. “We’re using some programs from the past but are also building new activities. "I’m looking forward to the progress we’ll make. That’s why I wanted this position.”
Her vision, with the support of her board, is to transform the local club into one of the premier outdoor-oriented Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada, taking full advantage of the natural world at our doorstep and drawing on her own experience with the outdoors. "We will have a fishing program with the rods donated by the local Hillcrest Fish and Game Protective Association. New programing includes day trips to Beauvais Lake, participating in BearSmart with John Clarke and field trips to Bar U Ranch, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump and Fort Steele."

Lee is also in the preliminary stages of starting a youth cycling program with the use of the parks and trails throughout the Crowsnest Pass.
Interested families can sign up for one day programs for weeklong activities. "It's $30 per day or $100 for the week. Programs can accommodate up to 25 children, so those interesedt need to sign up in advance to make sure they keep their spot." Sign up for programs has to be done on-line at www.bgccnp/blogspot.com. After this summer, the club intends to return to regular after-school programming in the community. The club has secured the use of a school bus through the support of the Livingstone Range School Division, and will be able to use it to aid in transporting students to or from the clubhouse at the MDM.
